Social Program

 

During the conference, a series of tours will be organized to visit historically significant places in Bucharest and surroundings:

 

- the House of Parliament – www.cdep.ro

The second largest building in the world after the Pentagon, built for former communist president and dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, became after 1989 the Parliament of Romania. Known as The Peoples' House - Casa Poporului before the revolution of 1989, with its 12 levels above the ground and 8 levels underground, this building entered three times the Guinness book, as the largest administrative building for civil use in the world, the most expensive administrative building in the world and the heaviest building in the world. The Parliament building is located in the central part of Bucharest, on the Arsenal Hill, surrounded by Izvor Street to the west and north-west, Bulevardul Libertăţii to the east and Calea 13 Septembrie to the south. It is located within 10 minutes walking distance from the Unirii Square - Piaţa Unirii and 20 minutes by bus from the North Railway Station – Gara de Nord (bus 123).

 

- the Cotroceni Palace and Museum, rebuilt by King Carol the I-st in 1888, currently hosting the Presidency of Romania  –

- the Mogosoaia Museum of feudal art, located in the Mogosoaia Palace, built by Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu between 1698-1702 in Romanian renaissance style (a combination of Venetian and Otoman elements). Renovated in1920 by Princess Martha Bibescu, the palace was donated to the Romanian state, becoming a museum in 1950 –

- the National Museum of Art, hosted since 1950 in the building of the former winter residence of the Royal Court. With a history dating back to the beginning of the 19-th century, the Royal Palace was enlarged and renovated by king Carol I – www.mnar.arts.ro

 

- the historical center of Bucharest, including the ruins of the Royal Court  built at the beginning of 15-th century and destroyed during the great fire from 1718 and the earthquake from 1738; currently the ruins represent an archaeological site and the Old Court Museum.

 

- the Village Museum, one of the first outdoor ethnographic museums, established in 1936 in the Herăstrău Park.
