The first International Symposiumon on the
Geology of the Black Sea Region

The first symposium on the Geology of the Black Sea Region was held in Ankara during 07-11 September 1992, under the auspices of the Prime Minister at that time. It was organized jointly by the General Directorate of the Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA) of Turkey and TMMOB Chamber of Geological Engineers. The Scientific Board of this event was comprised of the scientists from Azerbaijan,Georgia, Switzerland, Germany, Russia and
Greece working in circum Black Sea as well as Turkish scientists from MTA and the universities.

At the end of symposium, it was concluded that this symposium would be held biennially in different Black Sea countries. However, due to issues related to various financial and political priorities of these countries, the symposium could not be organized up to 2009.
